Finding Your Family's Philosophy
There is no single “right” way to educate at home. Every child is wired differently, and every family has its own unique rhythm. Take some time to explore these popular educational approaches to find the philosophy—or combination of philosophies—that best fits your child:
Learning that starts with a question, followed by structured inquiry into the topic. The structure can vary, depending on the age and readiness of the child.
Supports a child’s intrinsic motivation and develops self-discipline. The learning environment is planned around learning and toys are intentionally educational.
An approach to learning based on the philosophical framework by Rudolph Steiner. The main focus is to guide the child along the natural learning process through head (thinking), heart (feeling), and hands (doing).
Charlotte Mason, a British woman in the 19th century, came up with a simple way of learning: give children living ideas, rich literature, time in nature, and the habits of a well-ordered life. This approach has hints of Christianity in it as it refers to learning the bible.
There are many different organizations that provide full-year curriculum that have a strong focus on Christian beliefs and values. We have linked some here for your reference.
The Good and The Beautiful (some references to Christianity, but not heavily based on Bible).
Unschooling’s principle is simple: Your child leads the way. Your child’s interests will guide their learning and lay the path of where they will take their learning further. Some may be in awe of numbers, so Math will become a focus. A child that can tell or listen to stories all day long will more likely to focus on literacy. Or perhaps you have a young scientist at your hands? Unschooling truly puts the child in the centre.

Overcoming Obstacles
On a spring visit to the local obstacle course arena, the home learning community spent the day learning, encouraging one another, and stepping out of their comfort zones. For many children, the course was not just about getting past the obstacles, but about facing their fears and trying something they might have thought was too difficult at first.
As they moved from one challenge to the next, the children learned that they could do more together than alone. They supported each other, shared ideas, and made use of each person’s strengths to get through the course. Some children led the way, some offered help when needed, and others kept the group moving forward with patience and trust.
By the end of the day, the obstacle course had become much more than a physical activity. It was a chance for the children to build trust, show leadership, work as a team, and keep going even when things felt hard. Most importantly, they learned that fear can be faced, and often overcome, with the support of others.
